Day One Confidence:

How to Walk In Ready

You know that feeling when you show up to a party and you’re the only one in jeans? Or you’re in a cocktail dress and everyone else is in sneakers? That stomach-drop moment that you’ve made a terrible miscalculation.

It’s bad enough when it happens at a party, but even worse if it’s your first day at a new job. You want to walk in feeling credible and at ease, ready to meet new people and find your rhythm. The good news? You absolutely can.

That’s where the Three Cs come in - Confidence, Competence and Calm.

These are the feelings you can carry into any new beginning. They’re not about being perfect; they’re about showing up as your best self, even when the situation feels unfamiliar.

That’s not always easy, but we can help you take the guesswork out of it.

Step 1: Ask, don’t guess

If no dress code has been shared with you, reach out with a quick message to your HR lead or the person who hired you. It’ll show initiative and save you unnecessary stress.

If your company already partners with Edith, even better. The hard part’s been done for you. You’ll have options curated specifically for you that fit your role, your environment, and your company’s culture.

Step 2: Take cues from the team

Think back to your interview or your company tour. What were people wearing? Use that as your guide. Aim to fit in by looking polished and professional, while still adding your own quiet signature to your look.

Step 3: Prioritize fit and feeling

Choose clothes that fit your body well and move easily. Comfort signals confidence. Great hygiene and grooming matter too, so a fresh haircut and shave, clean nails, and a light makeup refresh can go a long way in helping you feel refined and self-assured.

Step 4: Plan ahead

Lay out a few outfits before your first week starts. Having your clothes ready removes one more decision from your brain that’s already full of new names, systems, and routines.

Step 5: Align with your role

If your job involves physical or outdoor work, ensure you follow the safety requirements like hard hats, steel-toed boots or uniforms. For everything else such as durable workwear and reliable outerwear, we’ve curated pieces by industry to make it easy to find exactly what fits your role. And if something’s missing, reach out and we’ll add it for you.

Every thoughtful choice you make leading up to your first day is a step toward showing up with the 3 Cs - Confidence, Competence, and Calm. Those three qualities don’t come from luck; they come from intention. And when you walk in feeling grounded and ready, people will feel it, and they’ll be glad you’re there.

Take the guesswork out of dressing professionally.
